Exciting news

5 01 2012

Exciting events are on the horizon for Campus Ministry United.  I am looking forward to all that God has in store for 2012.   Two new ministry plants are taking shape and concrete plans are forming for ministry students which equal people’s lives being transformed by the saving grace of Jesus Christ!

The ministry plan at Missouri State University has been approved and the fundraising is in progress. The East Grand Church of Christ in Springfield, MO will serve as the spiritual support and the local church home for seeking students. This congregation is very excited to be reaching out to young people searching for Good News.

God’s Hand has been visible all through this plant formation. We have been training a three-person team for Springfield. There is much excitement about the activity God will accomplish in this place.

August 2012, Catherine Kraus and Lauren Burke (above) will arrive in Springfield ready to scout out the new territory.

Catherine’s abilities will serve to organize and research all the possibilities for campus ministry effectiveness.  She has proven skills to assist in budgets and communication, or as I call her ‘my operational ninja’.   She has served two active campus ministries over the past 5 years.  After training and serving in Tampa, FL, she moved to Corpus Christi, TX and secured a job specifically to become an active member of this ministry.  She is very excited for the future adventure.

Lauren Burke was converted in the Tampa ministry and was soon highly active in reaching others with the good news of Jesus Christ.  She has served for two years as an apprentice for this ministry in addition to committing to the two-year Masters of Ministry program through Harding University.  She is incredibly enthusiastic about the prospects at Missouri State University in Springfield.  She will focus on the developing the young ladies who are reached through this ministry.

Both these young ladies that have committed their lives to the Lord’s work in campus ministry. They are willing to relocate to Springfield and secure jobs as they contribute to this mission on the university campus.

The third member of this team is Jeff Keely (above) who will be graduating from Harding University in December 2012.  He will then move to Springfield and serve as the campus minister.  Jeff spent two years in the CMU training program at Tampa and is now finishing his degree in Ministry.  Jeff has an avid passion for reaching young people with the gospel because he also was reached through campus ministry.   This experience and passion will make his work at MSU a joy and bring glory to our Father.

On my next blog I will share plans for the ministry plant at Rogers State University in Claremore, Oklahoma.

As you can see, God is doing great things with CMU by expanding our territory.  I wish to thank all of you that support this ministry making it possible to “Reach the world by planting campus ministries”.

Nesting

2 06 2011

We are finally in our new home in Tulsa, OK. Many things have been long anticipated. Many discoveries are yet to be found, but getting settled is a big endeavor. One thing we discovered at our new home was a robin building a nest right out our back porch window. She was protective but unafraid of the closeness to our gazing. As I watched the robin outside my window firm up her nest and lay her eggs and then begin working on the process of hatching them, I think of the parallels to us settling here in our new home.
Like the robin we have had to do some “firming up” of the nest. Carol and I have spent the two weeks painting the kitchen cabinets, unloading boxes, and preparing the house for all we look forward to sharing. In two weeks we will have three mission teams in our new home for a much-deserved dinner after a long trip and full week serving a camp for the Tulsa Urban Ministries.

I watch the robin as she watches over her eggs and think of all the people we have in varies levels of training. I think of how proud the robin appears to be of her eggs and then I think about how proud we are of the ones who are walking in faith with CMU. We have a full mission team (45) devoting their time and money so that young children will have an opportunity to experience summer camp in a positive environment. CMU is also blessed to have four people who are in a training process.

Jeff Keely has finished his two year commitment to the CMU training program and is now studying at Harding finishing his degree and gaining valuable Bible knowledge. He will soon be planted as a campus minister.

Kyle Fanning just finished his first semester in the training program and is working on his Masters Degree from Harding online. He is apprenticing with Clint Hill at the CIA campus ministry in the Corpus Christi, TX.

Catherine Kraus is pioneering for CMU as she is paving a path exampling location and career choices based on the connection to campus ministry. When faced with a career decision due to a layoff in Florida, she chose to search where CMU had campus ministries and allow God to find the job. She moved to Corpus Christi, TX to work in vocational ministry.

Lauren Burke is getting her Masters Degree from Harding online while working with Randy Kotchman in the Tampa CIA ministry. We look forward to the work God is planning for Lauren as she paves the way for women in campus ministry.

Like the robin Carol and I feel a responsibility to make sure they get what they need to move out into the world and produce fruit. As we get our ‘nest’ ready we pray for God to guide us in the work He has called us to, and we trust Him to provide what we need to do it.
