In Matthew 9 Jesus is surrounded by multitudes and moved with compassion because they were “harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” So He turned to His disciples and said, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.” I find it interesting Jesus didn’t say, “The harvest is plentiful so pray for the people to come”. The focus of Jesus’ prayer was not that the lost come–He said for us to pray for workers to go and harvest.
This is humbling. When Jesus looked at the harassed and helpless multitudes, apparently His concern was not that the lost would not come to the Father. Instead His concern was that His followers would not go to the lost.
